Data Dude - Visual Studio 2008 Database Edition GDR R2 Released

If you are using the Visual Studio Team System Database Edition (Data Dude), you will want to upgrade to the latest version that came out at end of April 2009. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=bb3ad767-5f69-4db9-b1c9-8f55759846ed&displaylang=en
Reason's to update:

  • You don't need a design database (typically express edition installed for you) "Database Edition no longer requires a Design Database. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to install an instance of SQL Express or SQL Server prior to using Database Edition."
  • It now also supports SQL 2008,
  • Distinct Build and Deploy phases,
  • Static Code Analysis (Including the ability to develop and deploy custom rules)
  • New Refactoring Operations (Wildcard Expansion, Move Schema, Fully Qualify, Extensibility point which enables the ability to develop and deploy custom refactoring types and targets
  • Dependency Viewer, and
  • Improved integration with SQL CLR projects.

Don't forget to have VS 2008 SP1 installed and follow the install instructions:
Install
Localized versions of the GDR for Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition will be available in the same languages as Service Pack 1 for Visual Studio 2008 (SP1). Each language-specific version of Database Edition must be installed on a version of Visual Studio 2008 SP1 that is running the same language. For example, the French GDR for Database Edition must be installed on a French version of Visual Studio 2008 SP1. If you would like to install a non-English version of the GDR for Database Edition, replace “English” with your language choice in the following instructions.

 
 

  1. Install Microsoft® Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition SP1 (English) or Microsoft® Visual Studio Team System 2008 Suite SP1 (English)
  2. Uninstall the Database Edition Power Tools if installed. To uninstall the Power Tools from the command line, use: msiexec /X {EA016DAB-E08A-46FB-BBF0-ED6EB8FD4671}
  3. Uninstall any previous version of the GDR for Database Edition. To uninstall a previous version of the GDR from the command line, use: msiexec /X {DDF197C6-4507-3A19-A4B5-0E17CC931370}
  4. Install Microsoft® Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1
  5. Install Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR by running the self-extracting executable SETUP.EXE.
